At First Steps Nursery, we’re proud to be able to offer a mix of indoor and outdoor play for children. We’re located in the rural village of Maxey not far from Peterborough, and our countryside location in a quiet village makes for a safe environment.
We have both indoor and outdoor facilities and we even take the children for a walk occasionally when this is possible. We believe this is vital to your child’s development. But what does the research say?
The official recommendations are that preschool aged children who can walk independently should do at least three hours of physical activity every day. At First Steps Nursery we can help your child achieve this with a mix of activities.
Boost their confidence
It’s believed that children that spend time outdoors are more likely to be comfortable trying new activities which in turn can help to develop their confidence.
Physical exercise
There are plenty of benefits to getting physical exercise. Even just a brisk 10 minute walk in the fresh air can help to improve circulation and concentration. It can also boost your child’s mood.
It’s good for both their physical and mental wellbeing, particularly when they’re going through a period of rapid development. Establishing a healthy relationship with exercise from a young age can also help to ward off common diseases in later life, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
Connect with nature
By helping your child to establish a positive relationship with the outdoors, they can go on to develop a good connection with nature.
Build resilience
Playing outdoors in all weathers can also help to build resilience. Trying their hand at different apparatus and sports helps them to learn boundaries and challenge their abilities.
Limit screen time
It’s important for children to also establish healthy boundaries with screen time to prevent them developing a lethargic lifestyle.
The above are just a handful of benefits to ensuring your child enjoys a mix of indoor and outdoor play. Interested in enrolling at our Day Nursery near Peterborough? Book a tour today.
