Can I Get Help with Childcare Costs?
First Steps Nursery are proud to say that we back working families! Families come in all shapes and sizes, and that no matter what the monetary aspect of childcare can be the largest expense – along with the stress of managing a family and upholding a job!
So that’s why here at First Steps we proudly back working families and offer all children the minimum of 15 hours of free childcare, and if eligible, up to the maximum of 30 Hours a week.
15 Hours Eligibility:
All three and four-year-old children can currently receive up to 15 hours of free early education per week.
- Every 3-4 year old can receive 15 hours of free childcare
- 570 Hours per year
- Taken over 38 Weeks (or can be split across 52)
30 Hours Eligibility:
Additionally, your family could be eligible to receive an extra 15 hours of free childcare for your 3-4-year-old a week – That’s right 30 hours!
You usually qualify to get 30 hours of free childcare if you (and your partner, if you have one) are:
- In employment
- Earning at least the National minimum wage or living wage for 16 hours a week (£125.28)
- Have a taxable income of under £100,000
- UK Resident
- 1,140 Hours a Year taken over 38 Weeks or can be split across 52 weeks
For more information and to see if your family qualifies for the 30 Hours of free childcare a week visit the Governments step by step guide.
Did you know that working families can additionally apply for tax-free childcare too? For every £0.80 a parent pays into an account, the government will contribute £0.20. To view the step by step guide visit the government site here: Tax-Free Childcare

Enjoyable★★★★★“My child enjoys coming to nursery especially when they go on walks down the lane to see the animals. She settled well into the new room and she talks fondly of the staff.”- A T
Lovely Staff★★★★★“My son attended this lovely village nursery once a week. He settled in quickly and loved the staff. A great outdoors area that is used to the full potential. Frequent walks around the village and visits to the park which my son loved. Activities always taking place to help with the children's development (and plenty of fantastic arts/crafts coming home!). My son really enjoyed his time at First Steps and he developed leaps and bounds while in the setting. Would definitely recommend First Steps especially to families with children who love being outdoors.”- Gillian
Supportive & Lovely★★★★★“Both our sons were at First Steps Nursery from babies through to leaving for school, meaning we've had a relationship with the lovely staff there for the last seven years. The nursery has been supportive throughout, catering to our youngest son's speech delay and engaging with external professionals where necessary. We always felt confident that our children were well looked after and most importantly were very happy in the setting. There was a lot of feedback during each development stage and we like to look back on all the photographs and saved little comments that were recorded over the years.”- Lisa C
