Can I Get Help with Childcare Costs?
First Steps Nursery are proud to say that we back working families! Families come in all shapes and sizes, and that no matter what the monetary aspect of childcare can be the largest expense – along with the stress of managing a family and upholding a job!
So that’s why here at First Steps we proudly back working families and offer all children the minimum of 15 hours of free childcare, and if eligible, up to the maximum of 30 Hours a week.
15 Hours Eligibility:
All three and four-year-old children can currently receive up to 15 hours of free early education per week.
- Every 3-4 year old can receive 15 hours of free childcare
- 570 Hours per year
- Taken over 38 Weeks (or can be split across 52)
30 Hours Eligibility:
Additionally, your family could be eligible to receive an extra 15 hours of free childcare for your 3-4-year-old a week – That’s right 30 hours!
You usually qualify to get 30 hours of free childcare if you (and your partner, if you have one) are:
- In employment
- Earning at least the National minimum wage or living wage for 16 hours a week (£125.28)
- Have a taxable income of under £100,000
- UK Resident
- 1,140 Hours a Year taken over 38 Weeks or can be split across 52 weeks

Outstanding★★★★★“Both our children have been to First Steps nursery from babies to school leavers. The staff are all simply outstanding, offering superb levels of care and attention to all the children. Our children loved the excellent facilities, brilliant outdoor spaces and the village location which means lots of fun and walks. Great food at meal times too! We knew after only a few days of our first child going there that we’d made the right decision. As a family we’ve enjoyed some brilliant sports days, toddle waddles and Christmas shows - all made possible by the excellent, hard working staff. Thanks for all the hard work!”- Paul J
Fantastic Facilities★★★★★“Our 2-year-old daughter has been attending First Steps in Maxey for a year and she absolutely loves it. The staff are all lovely, caring and fun - exactly how you would want them to be. They have fantastic facilities inside and outside and she particularly enjoys playing in the extensive garden areas. The variety of activities is really wide and the group often go out on little excursions around the village to explore. I would have no hesitation in recommending the nursery to other parents and wish we had found it earlier for our other two children.”- Jenny H
Supportive★★★★★“My son adores going to the nursery to see his friends. He is always full of chatter at the end of the day with all the things he has seen and done. The staff are all very approachable and supportive to my son and our family. I wouldn't want him to go anywhere else.”- Lauren C
